Olowan joined us in early 2012. Her canine companions had all passed on, and her owner at the time was not prepared to get more dogs. However, he knew she would be lonely and that he had to find a new home for her, so he brought her to Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary, where she settled in with Luke. Olowan was very happy with Luke but always remained very standoffish around people.
Olowan’s name (pronounced “oh-LOW-wahn”) means “song” in the Lakhota language of North America. We usually called her Ollie.
Ollie passed away peacefully in September of 2016, with her faithful companion Luke by her side. We will always remember her, and her incredible strength, independence, and self-confidence.
